The eve of 2010 was branded by an increasing effort to defend turf whilst capturing share from nontraditional markets. Retailers now find they can grab consumer spending from grocers, and grocers discover ways to outcompete restaurants. CPG firms sidestep retailers via the Internet, as retailers get smarter about private label.
